Columbia Museum of Art: The Art of Seating

I created two unique digital environments for a promotional photo shoot at the Museum of Art. For a modest donation of $2,500 sponsors will be photographed next to one of the two chairs from an upcoming exhibit “The Art of Seating”. The resulting photos will be on display in the Museum during the run of the show (April 28 – August 26, 2012).

House of Representatives Chamber Arm Chair” by Thomas Ustick Walter

Thomas Ustick Walter (September 4, 1804 – October 30, 1887) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was an American architect, the dean of American architecture between the 1820 death of Benjamin Latrobe and the emergence of H.H. Richardson in the 1870s. He was the fourth Architect of the Capitol, responsible for adding the north (Senate) and south (House) wings and the central dome that brought the U.S. Capitol building to essentially its modern appearance.”

Kirill Simin‘s unique digital environment, created exclusively for the Columbia Museum of Art “Art of Seating” promotional photo shoot, features Walter’s designs in the form of the US Capitol, the mosaic in the Thomas Jefferson Great Hall inside the Library of Congress, the Library of Congress main reading room and a close-up of the Capitol dome.

Grasshopper Arm Chair” by Eero Saarinen

Eero Saarinen (August 20, 1910 – September 1, 1961) was a Finnish American architect and industrial designer of the 20th century famous for varying his style according to the demands of the project: simple, sweeping, arching structural curves or machine-like rationalism.”

Kirill Simin‘s unique digital environment, created exclusively for the Columbia Museum of Art “Art of Seating” promotional photo shoot, features Saarinen’s designs in the form of the Gateway Arch, the flight center at the JFK International Airport, North Christian Church, and the Washington Dulles International Airport.

Five Points Full Rainbow

Don’t think I’ve ever posted this one. Got a clear shot at a full rainbow in Five Points two years ago (May 4th, 2009)
